The Salt Lake Stadium is one of the most extensively used stadiums in the country. With 100’s of matches being played on it each year, even natural grass was unable to withstand the rugged usage. Anticipating even higher use, the stadium authorities decided to revamp with stadium with FieldTurf artificial grass.
The FIFA approved synthetic grass field has been awarded FIFA 2-Star certification – the highest rating for artificial turf from FIFA.
The stadium is world`s second largest stadium seating capacity wise and is South Asia’s second world-class artificial grass field. The state-of-the-art facility meets all the FIFA requirements.

Hosted an official FIFA match!
On 2nd September 2011, the world’s top teams – Argentina and Venezuela faced each other at Salt Lake stadium, which was the perfect setting for such an historic match – with FieldTurf’s next-generation artificial turf as the playing surface.
Lionel Messi – one of the world’s best footballers – mesmerized the crowd at Salt Lake Stadium by winning the match against Venezuela, spreading his magic yet again!
Alejandro Sabella, who is also a former Argentinean player and the coach of the Argentina National Football Team, praised the artificial turf (FieldTurf) and said, “We are not used to playing on artificial turf. But it (FieldTurf) is very, very, good. It was in very good condition”.
The IFA shield matches were played on the newly laid FieldTurf pitch, where the semi-finals and finals were shown live on ESPN. Churchill brothers, Goa went on to win the tournament. During the tournament, entire Kolkata was drenched in heavy downpour, but FieldTurf’s unmatched drainage helped in smooth running of the tournament.
